HTA Information System

Our information system offers HTA reports and further information. The reports are systematic assessmens of scientific information and make statements on benefits, risks, costs and the impact of health-relevant technologies concerning the health care of the German population. Therefore they investigate efficacy, safety and cost-effectiveness, as well as the social, ethical, legal and organisational implications of a health intervention.

HTA supports healthcare decisions

In order to support sustainable decisions existing information should be comprehensively analysed from all possible affected areas. Here, models and scenarios can be helpful and incorporated into a structured and systematic assessment. Scientific evidence-based tools, concepts and methods for such a procedure include:

  • Health Technology Assessment (HTA)
    • systematic, trans-disciplinary assessment of scientific information about the effects of health-related processes, services, technologies and procedures on health and on the health care of the population (vaccinations, medical treatments, preventive measures etc.)
    • investigates efficacy, safety and cost-effectiveness, as well as the social, ethical, legal and organisational implications of a health intervention
    • serves as a basis for decisions in the healthcare system: for example, in politics, in the case of medical treatments, in the development and investment in innovations
  • Horizon Scanning (HS)
    • early detection and description of technologies before their implementation in the development process (time-oriented prior to marketing authorisation)
    • systematic search for information and their weighting relative to technologies
    • description of further technologies relating to these
