The German procedure classification according to § 301 SGB V (Operationen- und Prozedurenschlüssel OPS, former OPS-301) was published by DIMDI. In the beginning of procedure coding in Germany, only surgical procedures were coded. Since January 2002, its versions have been used for general procedure coding. This is mainly a consequence of the introduction of Diagnosis Related Groups (DRGs) in 2003.
Files of OPS and errata are available from our Download Center. However, these are only the data of the classification. DIMDI does not offer any coding software.
A comprehensive offer of information in German language on crosswalks for OPS is available in our German offer.
The self-governing bodies of the German health care system are responsible for the system of Diagnosis Related Groups and the Reimbursement System for German Hospitals G-DRG, based on OPS.
