Output Formats for DIMDI SmartSearch and DIMDI ClassicSearch

Retrieved documents can be displayed in different formats or be dispatched to an e-mail address subsequent to searching in the databases of the DIMDI. With DIMDI SmartSearch the desired format is selected from the pull down menu. With DIMDI ClassicSearch the format is indicated with the commands SHOW, MAIL and SDI via the parameter REPORT, e.g. SHOW REPORT=IMPORT .

Schema of the Output Formats

The following output formats are available:

HTML (Standard Output)

A visual display is supplied that is particularly suitable to printout. The individual fields differ in colour and search terms are emphasised with highlighting.

ASCII

The output follows in txt format for printing or storing.

BASIC

The output is without document price and without a link to the full text of the document. With DIMDI SmartSearch the output is in ASCII format, in DIMDI ClassicSearch you can choose between  ASCII and HTML format.

IMPORT and D2

The output is in text format with field separators that facilitate the further machine processing in a literature management programme.

RIS Format

Output with special tags for further processing in a program for literature management. With F=XMLALL you make sure, that all available data fields are displayed, the bibliographic and content relevant data fields are considered with RIS format. To avoid problems with conversion of umlauts, please enter the command DEFINE CHARSET=ASCII. The created text file must be renamed to name.ris.

XML and XMLIMPORT

The output in XML format facilitates the data exchange of the different programmes. In the XML-Output search terms are highlighted, the XMLIMPORT-Format deliveres no highlighting.

Formats for the Import in a Literature Management Programme

The formats D2, IMPORT and XML are displayed with field separators and are suitable for importing documents into a literature management program, such as EndNote or Reference Manager. An appropriate filter must be used to import the documents in a literature management program. When using the RIS-format standard fields are displayed for which a filter is included in the program. The producers of the literature management programs offer filters for the D2 format of DIMDI, which are partly outdated.

Reference Manager

For those using the Reference Manager as a literature management program, DIMDI made filters for the output formats IMPORT and XML and XMLIMPORT (please use the right mouse button to store):

The Captoken.dat is not imperative, however, the updated version available here enables a better identification of data formats when importing documents.

When importing documents in the XML format, bear in mind that you should use File -> Import Text File... and not  File -> Import XML File...
The filters can be individually adapted for the import of further data fields, see following instructions for the Reference Manager:

EndNote

DIMDI provides detailed instructions with the following items for the users of EndNote: Transmission of search results via the Z39.50-interface, Import of locally stored search results in the import format and Import filter to extend more data fields.

Please store the appropriate EndNote filter for the import format, Import(DIMDI).enf with the right mouse button under EndNote 8/Filters.

Output with XML

XML (eXtensible Markup- Language) has prevailed as data exchange format. It concerns an open standard and is, therefore, not bound to a certain software. XML has a clear and simple syntax, the layout information is separated from the data and structure. An XML schema is available for each database so that the different applications (see example above).

The current XML-scheme is available under http://www.dimdi.de/database/schema/

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?>
