Special Notes

The references added to an article by the author are available online starting II01 and can be used like search concepts; the method is called "Citation Indexing" (see RF data field).

Unit records referring to books, journals, or series about conferences are characterised by document type (DT) "Main Entry" additionally to "Book" or "Journal" or "Series".

Data concerning the individual contributions to a conference (proceedings papers) published in the sources mentioned are contained in separate unit records with document types "Meeting Abstract" etc.

The same Genuine Article Number (GAN) is assigned to the Main Entry corresponding to the individual papers of each conference. The GAN is contained in the Source field (SO) of every unit record.

Since the availability of data fields is not the same in the different document types (e.g. CF field is not available in DT = Main Entry records), additional data may be retrieved by means of the GAN.

The following sample records show two Main Entries, a book and a journal, and two corresponding conference proceedings.

Standing orders (SDI) are possible for Premium Users.

AB: In "Stay Green" types of maize, the stem and the leaves do not ripen as quickly as the cob and remain green during the grain filling period. Consequently, the stem and leaves should be higher in digestibility for ruminants than the conventional "Dry Down" types. The present study was conducted to test this hypothesis.
Twenty maize varieties were tested in two trials (from 1995 to 1997) for their in vitro digestibility, using the "Cellulase Method" (DE BOEVER et al., 1986). The first trial was carried out with 5 maize varieties (2 "Stay Green", 3 "Dry Down" types), harvested at dry matter (DM) contents between 23and 57 %. The maize plants were separated into 3 parts: dehusked cob, stem/ leaves below the cob and stem / leaves above the cob. The second trial was carried out with all 20 genotypes (9 "Stay Green" types, 11 "Dry Down" types) at five widespread locations in Germany. The plants were separated into 2 parts: dehusked cob and the remainder. In both trials, significant differences (p < 0,05) between varieties for in vitro digestibility were obtained for the cob-free components of the plant, but it could not be confirmedthat "Stay Green" types in general have a higher digestibility than "Dry Down" types at comparable DM contents. The varieties did not differ significantly for in vitro digestibility of the cob.

AB: Atmospheric CO2 has increased at a nearly identical average rate of 3.3 and 3.2 Pg C yr(-1) for the decades of the 1980s and the 1990s, in spite of alarge increase in fossil fuel emissions from 5.4 to 6.3 Pg C yr(-1). Thus, the sum of the ocean and land CO2 sinks was 1 Pg C yr(-1) larger in the 1990s than in to the 1980s. Here we quantify the ocean and land sinks for these two decades using recent atmospheric inversions and ocean models. The ocean and land sinks are estimated to be, respectively, 0.3 (0.1 to 0.6) and 0.7 (0.4 to 0.9) Pg C yr(-1) larger in the 1990s than in the 1980s. When variability less than 5 yr is removed, all estimates show a global oceanic sink more or less steadily increasing with time, and a large anomaly in the land sink during 1990-1994. For year-to-year variability, all estimates show1/3 to 1/2 less variability in the ocean than on land, but the amplitude and phase of the oceanic variability remain poorly determined. A mean oceanic sink of 1.9 Pg C yr(-1) for the 1990s based on O-2 observations correctedfor ocean outgassing is supported by these estimates, but an uncertainty on the mean value of the order of +/-0.7 Pg C yr(-1) remains. The differencebetween the two decades appears to be more robust than the absolute value of either of the two decades.
