Full text versions of the Cochrane reviews and protocols on developing systematic reviews are contained in the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews (CDSR; Cochrane Reviews). A Cochrane review combines all relevant studies concerning a therapeutical problem. The reviews are formally and structurally standardized and are usually counted among the studies of highest scientific evidence. Before its production a protocol of every Cochrane review is made which describes the topic as well as the quality criteria. The revision of a Cochrane review takes place if there are new studies dealing with a therapeutical problem or as soon as a correction is necessary. Bibliographical details, indications, descriptors as well as abstracts can be searched. Full texts are available for a fee.
The Documents from the Database "Cochrane Database of Methodology Reviews (CDMR)" were integrated in the CDSR and are searchable.

Controlled Terms (CT): MeSH thesaurus with polyhierarchical
structure
Field CT is only available in document type "Review".
Language of vocabulary: English
The hierarchical structure of the thesaurus allows a one step search for indented descriptors using the command FIND CT DOWN … (explosion). CT can be limited using more than 80 qualifiers, e.g. epidemiology of a disease (FIND CT=.../QF=ep). List of qualifiers see appendix.
Descriptors, describing the major topics of an article are weighted and marked in the document by an asterisk (HIV SEROPOSITIVITY/*). You can search for weighted descriptors with the command FIND CT=.../W=1.
The command DISPLAY CT TREE ... displays the structure of the thesaurus.
DISPLAY CT= ... ;ALL displays all available additional information to a descriptor (see table below).
The following additional information for controlled terms (CT) is available:
| Code | Field Name | Description |
|---|---|---|
| ANN | Annotations | Indexing annotations |
| AQ | Allowed Qualifier | Qualifiers allowed for limiting the controlled terms |
| CC | Classification Code | One descriptor may have several classification codes corresponding to the different branches in the polyhierarchic thesaurus |

| DA | Date | Date, the record was added to the system |
| ECOM | Entry Combination | Information on use of combinations for related concepts |

| PLS: | Plain language summary Sulpiride versus placebo for schizophrenia Schizophrenia is a severe mental illness characterised by a mixture of symptoms such as hallucinations, delusions, disorganisation and social withdrawal. For some it can be a life-long condition and people with this diagnosis are usually treated with antipsychotic drugs. There can be quite a large difference in cost between recently developed antipsychotics (second generation) and the older ones (first generation), but the older drugs can have considerably more movement side effects and many people find them difficult to tolerate. In developing countries cost of medication can be a major factor in prescribing, so the first generation drugs are used the most. ... |
| AB: | Background Sulpiride is a relatively old antipsychotic drug reputed to have low incidence of adverse effects and an effect on the negative symptoms of schizophrenia. This relatively inexpensive antipsychotic drug has a similar neuropharmacological profile to several novel atypical drugs. Objectives To evaluate the effects of sulpiride for schizophrenia and other similar serious mental illnesses in comparison with placebo. Search strategy We searched the Cochrane Schizophrenia Group Trials Register (September 2008) and references of all identified studies for further trial citations. We contacted pharmaceutical companies and authors of trials for additional information. Selection criteria We included all randomised controlled trials (RCTs) comparing sulpiride with placebo for people with schizophrenia and other types of schizophrenia-like psychoses. The primary outcome of interest was clinically significant response in global state. ... |
