DIMDI ClassicSearch: Now you can see in advance what a search will cost

Sep 26, 2011

Now when using DIMDI ClassicSearch you will be able to see in advance what searches in databases that are not free of charge will cost, giving you better control over your expenditures.

The command INFO COST calls up a list of costs related to the current search. CALL ACCOUNT calls up an overview of billing data for all searches (present and past). Every time you log out you are shown the costs accumulated in connection with the searches you have just carried out.
Obviously, this information applies to costs already incurred. Now you will also be able to see what costs you will be charged before incurring them.

New cost report feature

With our new cost report feature you can find out beforehand what activating a command will cost you. By way of example, you can decide whether or not you want to pay the amount you would be charged before downloading a document or sending it by e-mail. You can activate the automatic cost report function via the new NOTICE command. Every time you want to use the SHOW, CH DUP, EXTRACT, REPORT, or MAIL function the relevant costs (gross total, VAT included) will be displayed before the function is carried out. You can then decide if you want to go ahead with what you are doing or cancel.

The automatic cost report feature is turned off in the default setting. You can activate it via NOTICE:

  • as a permanent setting with: DEFINE NOTICE=Y.
  • for the current session with: SET NOTICE=Y.

You can deactivate the cost report feature with DEFINE NOTICE=N or SET NOTICE=N.

You will find further information on the cost report function in chapters 20 and 21 of the DIMDI ClassicSearch user manual.
