Version 5.3 Released June 2011 1. This is a final release of the beta V5.2 version of the program that was distributed in limited release at the June LOINC meeting. See the V5.2 release notes for further information. Version 5.2 Released June 2011 1. The Mapping Screen and Simple Search Screen now allow you to search using Auto Mapper Search, where RELMA tries to find the matching LOINC Parts in your search query (Component/Property/Timing/System/Scale/Method) -- this is more precise than the standard search, which just searches for that combination of words in your search query. Selecting "Auto Mapper Search: Lab" limits the search to Lab LOINCs, while selecting "Auto Mapper Search: Clinical" limits the search to Clinical (non-Lab) LOINCs. 2. The Tools | Find Local Terms Mapped to Deprecated/Discouraged LOINCs screen has been altered. The "Replacement LOINC" section now gives the user access to all the replacement LOINC codes for the current mapping. The navigation of the replacement LOINC codes is made possible by the familiar first [ |<< ], previous [ < ], next [ > ], and last [ >>| ] buttons. The Comment field has also been added to the "Replacement LOINC" section. This field explains the rational for using this replacement term. The navigation in the "Local Term" section has also been changed. It now uses the familiar first [ |<< ], previous [ < ], next [ > ], and last [ >>| ] buttons. 3. Lucene proximity and fuzzy searches are now supported on the mapping screen and the simple search screen. 4. The Lucene score is now displayed on the mapping screen and the simple search screen in the "Score" column. 5. The Top 2000 Lab Results value set ranking is now displayed on the mapping screen and the simple search screen in the "Rank" column. The Top 2000 Lab Results value set is described in detail at http://loinc.org/usage. 6. Column headers on the mapping screen, simple search screen, and Part search screen are now the same as their Lucene field names. For example, you can now search on [ ExUnits:mg ], where "ExUnits" is the header for the example units column. 7. Double-clicking on the simple search screen, Part search screen, and hierarchy trees now displays the details for row where you double-clicked. 8. LOINC Part quotients, like "Creatine kinase.MB/Creatine kinase.total", are now displayed in the Part section on the details screen. 9. When creating new LOINC codes it is important to have as much information as possible. Therefore, new fields have been added to collect additional information about the individual terms being requested and the submission as a whole. 10. You now directly edit the column width during Configure Grid, rather than entering the width into a separate dialog box. 11. The main menu screen has been revamped. The "View HIPAA attachments" option has been replaced with a "Propose new LOINC term" option. You can still access the HIPAA attachements from the HIPAA menu or the "Review Panels, Forms & Surveys" menu option. 12. Part Quotients (like "Face upper/Face all") are now displayed separately in the Parts section of the LOINC Details form so you can view reference information (description, etc.) specific to that Quotient. 13. Mouseovers for deprecated and discouraged LOINCs can now show the status reason when present. 14. Answer list details for external lists can now contain a link to the external list and when the answer list was last updated. 15. When appropriate, details can contain a picture. 16. There are several new experimental fields on the mapping screen and simple search screen -- LocalCode and LocalName (currently empty), PanelParentName (the LOINC number and Long Common Name of parent panels for this LOINC), and AnswerListName and Answers (the name of the answer list for this LOINC and its answers). These fields start off invisible, as they may not be commonly useful and are time-consuming to display in this version of RELMA. Version 5.1 Released February 2011 1. RELMA stores various settings such as the path to the LMOF3.MDB database and the path to the RELMA.MDB database in a file on the user's machine. These settings have been preserved as RELMA has been upgraded from version 4.0 through version 4.5. However, when RELMA is upgraded from version 4.x to version 5.0 or later the settings will be reset to the default values. This means that the path to the LMOF3.MDB database and the path to the RELMA.MDB database will be reset to the default paths. Below are the default paths in various operating systems. Windows XP = C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\RELMA\ Windows Vista = C:\Users\Public\Documents\RELMA\ Windows 7 = C:\Users\Public\Documents\RELMA\ All users that do not store the LMOF3.MDB database and RELMA.MDB database in the above location will need to repoint RELMA to the appropriate database location. This can be accomplished by starting the RELMA program and then doing the following. * File | Set User Preferences * To change the path to the RELMA.MDB database containing the LOINC codes * Click [Browse] to the right of "Path to LOINC Database" * Browse to the appropriate location * Click [Open] * To change the path to the LMOF3.MDB database containing your codes * Click [Browse] to the right of "Path to Local Terms" * Browse to the appropriate location * Click [Open] * Click [OK] * Click [Exit Program] * Restart RELMA The setting of the database location only needs to be performed once. The database location will be preserved in subsequent runs of the currently installed version and after upgrades to future versions. We apologize for the inconvenience. If you need assistance please send an email to loinc@regenstrief.org. 2. Adjusted the tab order of the controls in the graphical user interface. 3. The Lab Auto Mapper no longer displays the restriction control, as the Lab Auto Mapper pre-selects the necessary restrictions. 4. RELMA now selects the row under the cursor when you right-click in a grid that has zero rows selected or one row selected. 5. Slight modifications to Term Submission form for better usability and display visibility. 6. Various bug fixes and performance improvements. Version 5.0 Released December 2010 1. RELMA now uses the open source Lucene search engine for all searching. This is a major change for RELMA and one that greatly enhances the search capabilities. See the RELMA manual or the program help to see the full list of enhancements available. NOTE - The foreign language searches that utilize the new Lucene indexing are still considered to be in beta testing and may not function as intended or expected. Please examine the results of foreign language searches carefully before using. 2. RELMA will now display images from the LOINC server on some of the detail pages. Since these images are stored on the Internet, you must be connected to the Internet to see the images. 3. A help system has been integrated into the RELMA program. Currently, help is available from the "Part Search" screen, the "LOINC Simple Search" screen, and the "Mapping" screen. To view the help on those screens, press F1 or click the question mark button. 4. The CD-ROM distribution will no longer contain the HL7 Lint program. The program will still be available for download from the LOINC website. 5. The menu screen has been removed from the CD-ROM distribution. When the user inserts the CD the RELMA installation will automatically start. 6. The part index for the English language will be installed with the application. It will no longer be generated on demand unless certain criteria are met. 7. Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) 2.8 is no longer installed with the application. 8. The minimum supported operating system for the RELMA program has been increased from Windows 2000 to Windows XP SP3. Users running Windows XP SP2 or older will be notified when they start the RELMA installation. 9. The .NET Framework that is installed with the application has been increased from version 2.0 to version 4.0. Users running Windows 7 that do not have .NET Framework 4.0 installed will be prompted to restart their computer upon completion of the RELMA installation. 10. Tooltips are now displayed for deprecated, discouraged, and trial LOINCs. 11. LOINC search results can now be sorted by Component/Property/System (the default sort order), or they can be sorted by relevance ranking. This is controlled by a setting on the User Preferences dialog. 12. The Intelligent Mapper has be optimized for lab terms and may not work as well for clinical terms. To reflect this change, the Intelligent mapper is now called the "Lab Auto Mapper." 13. The Lab Auto Mapper is over 20X faster now. A local term file with 1000 local terms should take less than 30 minutes to process. The Lab Auto Mapper now defaults to preferring common tests so common tests will appear first in the results. 14. The Lab Auto Mapper now tries to detect any specimen(s) in the OBR and OBX description in the local term. If it cannot find a specimen, the Lab Auto Mapper tries to guess the specimen using certain rules. 15. The Lab Auto Mapper now tries to detect any method(s) in the OBR when there is an OBR description and it is different from the OBX description. 16. Total, average, and median # of LOINCs examined and execution time are now displayed on the Intelligent Mapper report. 17. When you propose a new LOINC, RELMA now reminds you to enter an answer list if the new LOINC's Scale = 'Ord'. 18. You can now search for LOINC numbers on the simple search screen and mapping screen. Part of this change is that semicolon (';') is now an alternate phrasing for 'OR'. This lets you easily enter the LOINC numbers to search for, as in "2857-1; 14120-0". 19. RELMA displays all of the (now possibly multiple) mappings for deprecated and discouraged LOINCs on the details screen. 20. Increased throughput of HL7 import process via filtering and other performance enhancements. The manual reflects this new filters and options. 21. Added new fields to the LOINC Proposal form allowing users to send more applicable information related to new terms. The multiple comment fields have also been removed. All comments relating to the new term should now be entered in the single comment box near the bottom of the screen. Version 4.5 Released June 2010 1. Requesting a LOINC has now been split into two functions for easier use -- "Propose a new LOINC" (which brings up an empty LOINC proposal form) and "Propose a LOINC based on selected term" (which brings up a LOINC proposal form filled-in with data from the currently-selected LOINC (and local term if you are on the mapping screen)). 2. Separate restrictions for trial, discouraged, and deprecated LOINCs have been implemented. The default is to include trial LOINCs but exclude discouraged and deprecated LOINCs. 3. Part Search now has a help button that brings up a modal dialog with the text from the RELMA manual describing Part Search syntax. 4. The right-click “Sort Grid” action now uses a vertical display (one row for each column in the grid to sort) which should be easier to read. 5. "Custom Export" settings are now sticky -- they stay the same between RELMA sessions. Version 4.4 Released June 2010 1. There are now 4 LOINC status values: Active - This LOINC is in active use. Trial - This LOINC is under development, so it may change. Discouraged - This LOINC should not be used for new mappings. Deprecated - This LOINC has been deprecated -- please replace all mappings to this LOINC. 2. "Part Search" is a new tab on the mapping form that lets you search for common LOINC Parts. It uses a Google-like query syntax. 3. You can now directly select the type of LOINC details display to view from the right-click menu with: View Details - Simple View Details - Comprehensive View Details - Custom (When viewing Parts, selecting any of these performs the identical "View Details" action for Parts.) 4. "View Panel Children" is a new right-click (context menu) action to display the children of the currently-selected LOINC panel in a grid on a new form. You can then perform all normal right-click actions on the LOINCs in this grid -- Copy to Clipboard, Export to Excel, etc. 5. Custom Export now lets you export all rows or only the selected rows. 6. The mapping screen now lets you type in the local term file entry # so you can go to that term directly. 7. LOINC and Part grid (flat) search results now preserve their sort order between searches when you use the Sort Grid right-click action. For example, if you search LOINC for OPIATES, "Sort Grid" ascending by the Component, then search for MORPHINE, the search results for MORPHINE will be sorted by Component. 8. The View All Working Set Terms screen now has an "Export Local Term File" button. 9. Upon completion of a text or HL7 import, a summary will appear showing the results. After user confirmation of the results, the process to identify unrecognizable concepts (battery, test, or units) will start automatically, showing words that RELMA cannot use for synonyms. 10. The Custom Display now gives you finer-grained control over what LOINC Part information you see. 11. Search result grids / trees now display an example UCUM units column, located just before the example units column. 12. Search result grids / trees now display the HL7 CDA document section column, located just after the Order/Observation column. 13. Ctrl-E is now a shortcut for the Export right-click action. 14. Ctrl-P is now a shortcut for the Print right-click action. 15. Extraneous fields in the Requested LOINCs database have been removed. Please refer to the RELMA User Guide for specifics. 16. Species-level information is no longer accepted via the Request LOINC form. The Submission database will retain this field to continue to allow users to manually populate this field via Microsoft Access directly. *** IMPORTANT INSTALLATION NOTE *** The LMOF3.MDB database and RELMA.MDB database are now installed in the CommonDocumentsFolder\RELMA directory. Below is the default location for this directory on various operating systems. Windows XP = C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\RELMA\ Windows Vista = C:\Users\Public\Documents\RELMA\ Windows 7 = C:\Users\Public\Documents\RELMA\ I am a new user. How will this affect me? ------------------------------------------ The first time you run RELMA, the program will automatically use the databases in the CommonDocumentsFolder\RELMA directory. No additional work is required on your part. I am an existing user. How will this affect me? ------------------------------------------------ The RELMA 4.4 installation will remove the previously installed RELMA.MDB database. It will also install a new RELMA.MDB database and a blank LMOF3.MDB database in the CommonDocumentsFolder\RELMA directory. The first time you run RELMA, the program will continue to use your existing LMOF3.MDB database that contains all of your local codes and mappings. Also, it will automatically repoint itself to the new RELMA.MDB database in the CommonDocumentsFolder\RELMA directory. So, this should be a seamless transition that does not require any additional work on your part. If you encounter a problem with the transition please contact the LOINC group via email at loinc@regenstrief.org. We are more than happy to work with you on any issues that you may experience. I am an administrator. How will this affect me? ------------------------------------------------ Upon completion of the installation you can log off and hand the machine back over to the user. No additional work is required on your part. Why aren't the databases being installed in My Documents anymore? ----------------------------------------------------------------- Several of our users have their software installed by an Administrator. This meant that the databases were installed in the My Documents\RELMA directory for the Administrator. Most users do not have access to this directory and therefore were unable to run RELMA without additional work on the part of the Administrator. This issue has been resolved by installing the databases in the CommonDocumentsFolder area which is a public area that all users of the machine typically have write access to. Version 4.3 Released February 2010 1. Modified the layout of the LOINC detail reports to improve the look and feel. We also adjusted the sections that are displayed on the simple and comprehensive versions of the display. 2. Re-enabled the "propose a LOINC" feature when the program is run via the internet. 3. Corrected a bug that was causing issues with dates for certain international users. 4. If you specify units without any keywords or other restrictions, RELMA will now search for LOINCs with units and properties compatible with the units you specify - for example, searching on "g/dL" will yield LOINCs with units and properties of "g/dL", "MCnc", "ng/dL", etc. but would not yield LOINCs with units and properties of "g", "SCnc", "%", etc. 5. "Custom Display" now saves the selected sections when RELMA exits, so you will see the same selected sections the next time RELMA starts. 6. The "Custom Display" selection screen now has a "Reset to Defaults" button that returns the form to a default set of selected sections. 7. When displaying the details for a panel, the same details are shown for both the root LOINC and its children (except for "Core Parts", which are displayed only for the root LOINC unless you are using the Custom Display). 8. If a LOINC is part of the "Common tests 99.+ %tile", then that LOINC's percentage of use is shown on all of the search results screens. 9. Multi-axial search results views can now be configured through the "Configure Grid" action. 10. The OID and code system (if they exist) for answer lists are now displayed. *** IMPORTANT INSTALLATION NOTE *** Newer versions of Microsoft Windows have tightened down the security settings of the operating system. This has required us to move the RELMA data files out of the Windows "Program Files" directory. By default the program will now install the RELMA.MDB and LMOF3.MDB databases in a \RELMA sub-directory of the users local directory. The default path looks something like: C:\Users\\Documents\RELMA. This choice can have unintended consequences if the person installing the program is logged in as a different user than the person who will be using the program. A typical example of this behavior is a situation where an IT support person logs into a machine as an administrator to install the program for a local user. In this case, the /RELMA data file directory will be created under the administrator accounts local directory. When this happens, the intended user will not be able to see the data files when the program starts and RELMA will report an error. In this situation, the installer must copy the /RELMA directory to the appropriate local user directory or some other directory to which the user has access and ensure that they have read and write privileges to the directory. It is very important that prior to moving any files, that you make a backup copy of the LMOF3.MDB database. If the target user already has a LMOF3.MDB data file, it should NOT be replaced by the empty file created during the upgrade. If this happens, the users prior work will be lost. When the user runs the program for the first time, they be prompted for the location of the two database files. If this happens, just browse to the /RELMA directory and select the appropriate file. We are still evaluating our choice of target directory and may changes the location again in future release. Version 4.2 Release date: 12/30/2009 1. Previous version of RELMA stored its working data files in the c:\program files directories by default. In newer versions of Windows such as Vista and Windows 7, Microsoft has asked developers to move data files out of this directory. In fact, due to new security restrictions imposed on these directories by the operating system it is difficult for an average user to access these directory. Therefore, in order to comply with the Microsoft application requirements new installations of RELMA will place its data files in the users documents directory under the /RELMA sub-folder folder. 2. A simple search screen has been added to RELMA. The Welcome screen button for simple search is labeled "Search LOINC", and the File menu choice is "Search LOINC Database". The simple search screen lets you enter a search phrase and retrieve search results on a clean, uncluttered screen. Searches can be restricted on the simple search screen by units or by whether the LOINC is a common test (one of the 99.+% Common Tests (as determined by an analysis of Indiana Network for Patient Care (INPC) data). 3. If a LOINC has an assigned CDA (Clinical Document Architecture) Document Section, that is now displayed in that LOINC's Basic Properties section. 4. If a LOINC is one of the 99.+% Common Tests (as determined by an analysis of Indiana Network for Patient Care (INPC) data), the percentage of that test is listed in the simple search screen results, the mapping screen grid search results, and on the mapping screen multi-axial tree search results. 5. The standalone "Add/Edit Local Terms" form has been removed. You can now review your local codes from the "View All Working Set Terms" tab of the main mapping screen. 6. The search screen includes a spell checker. As you finish typing words and hit the space key, any words that are unknown to the LOINC system will be displayed with a red squiggle underline. If you right click on the unknown word, RELMA will display its best guess of a word the RELMA know. When doing a search, RELMA will ignore any words that have the red squiggle underline. 7. The "Custom Export" function used to export your LOINC search results to other programs or systems has been significantly re-worked. The right click menu options; "Copy to Clipboard", "Save to File", "Export to Excel", "Send to Email" and "Custom Export" have all been replaced by the "Export" and "Configure Export". Please see the user guide for detailed information on using these new options. 8. The options available on the "Custom Display" option of the LOINC detail display screen have extensively reworked. Hopefully, they are easier to use and more intuitive to understand. 9. HL7 Import Process properly analyzes and summarizes sample data based on the parameters provided. 10. Additional data validation has been added to the LOINC Submission form. Other changes include confirmation messages during editing process. Version 4.1 Release date: 10/29/2009 1. The word wrapping on the LOINC details screen has been improved. You can now increase the font size without displaying the horizontal scroll bars. 2. Pressing the Enter key while in the mapping screen "Mapped to:" textbox now lets you map or unmap the current local term immediately. 3. The Propose a LOINC form now lets you save a copy of the current proposed LOINC using the new [Clone] button. 4. Review Requested LOINCs now supports right-click menu actions. 5. The new Custom Display option "Use Fully-Specified Name of LOINCs" (in the "PANEL/FORM/SURVEY/ATTACHMENT SECTIONS") forces the main name of a panel child LOINC to be the fully-specified name. (Other names for that LOINC, if they exist, are displayed beneath the LOINC in the Detailed Display.) 6. If you need to temporarily use a different LOINC database file, you can use the new command-line argument "/loincdb LOINCDATABASENAME" -- for example, "Regenstrief.Relma.exe /loincdb C:\TEMP\UPDATED-RELMA.MDB". 7. If you need to temporarily use a different LMOF database file, you can use the new command-line argument "/lmofdb LOINCDATABASENAME" -- for example, "Regenstrief.Relma.exe /lmofdb C:\TEMP\LMOF3-SMALL.MDB". Version 4.0 Release date: 9/10/2009 1. Version 4 represents a major update of RELMA. RELMA has now been completely ported to the Microsoft .Net framework. 2. RELMA now takes advantage of your Windows color schemes. The ability to use custom colors in RELMA has been removed. 3. The main search screen has been subtly redesigned. Directly below the menu are three tabs. These tabs allow the user to navigate between the restriction screen, the local terms screen, and the main search screen. 4. Users are no longer required to enter a user name. Now, the program will automatically use your Windows user name when logging your mapping history. 5. The icons on the main screen have been replaced with new, more colorful, icons. 6. The "Common Test Restrictions" controls have been refactored. This group of radio buttons is now called "Lab Test Restrictions" and contains the following options: "None" - No restrictions from this group will be used in the search. "Lab Tests Only" - Only LOINC codes with CLASSTYPE=1 are returned in the search results. "CDISC Lab Tests Only" - Only LOINC codes with CDISC_COMMON_TESTS="Y" are returned in the search results. "Common Lab Tests 99.+ %tile Only" - Only LOINC codes whose value in the INPC_PERCENTAGE field exceeds the threshold required to put the LOINC in the 99th percentile of INPC tests are returned in the search results. 7. The default setting that controls the amount of time the intelligent mapper spends analyzing each local term has been reduced from 5 minutes to 1 minute. This value can be changed by the user at run time. 8. Answer lists are now declared as either NORMATIVE (that is, an answer list adhering to a published standard) or EXAMPLE (an answer list displaying some example answers to the question posed by the LOINC). 9. The HL7 version 2 and HL7 version 3 datatype is now displayed for LOINCs that have these datatypes. These datatypes replace the old LOINC.DATATYPE field. 10. A consumer name for a LOINC (LOINC.CONSUMER_NAME) is now supplied for some LOINCs. The intent is that consumer-oriented applications would display the consumer name for a LOINC rather than one of the more technical names. 11. A new "Curated Range and Units" (LOINC.CURATED_RANGE_AND_UNITS) field displays the list of ranges and units as curated by Regenstrief. 12. Answer list code systems are displayed if any of the answers has a code system. 13. The primary name used for a LOINC in the Panel Children details section follows this order: Display Name for Form (if exists) LOINC Long Common Name (if it exists) LOING Shortname (if it exists) LOINC Fully-Specified Name The other names for the LOINC are shown in the Panel Children With Details view. 14. The LOINC and Part details form now has a button that displays "Separated pages" when each LOINC or Part is on its own page as in previous versions of RELMA, and displays "All on 1 page" when all of the LOINCs and Parts are displayed together on 1 page. Pressing this button lets you switch between these 2 types of displays. 15. The new Custom details section "Panel with Children - Children with Details Listing" displays each Panel child that has significant details. This is similar to "Panel with Children - Full Details Listing", except that panel children without significant details are omitted. 16. Alternative codes for Parts are now shown on the Detailed Display for both LOINCs and Parts. 17. LOINC units and Common Lab 99.+ percentile values for each LOINC are now shown on the multi-axial search tree results and on the restriction trees. 18. LOINC Panel Children With Details displays the new fields for the data type in the form and the source of that data type. 19. LOINC Panel Children now displays a Cardinality column which specifies the cardinality of a child LOINC. This replaces the old R/O/C column. 20. LOINC Basic Properties details now uses the more accurate name "CDISC Common Test" in place of the old "Pharma Test". 21. LOINC details will now display form skip logic, if present. 22. LOINC answer list code system OIDs are now shown on the Detailed Display. 23. A LOINC translation into Korean is now available. Also, additional LOINC Spanish and French translations are now available. 24. Restriction tree searches now let you use the same syntax as searches on the mapping screen. 25. RELMA now allows mapping a local term to a non-LOINC source term. If the source term is a LOINC Part, RELMA will display the name of the LOINC Part. 26. The sample data and NTE data is now displayed only in the single local term display rather than on the local terms form. 27. The mapping screen sample data tree now automatically drops up once a sample datum is selected. Version 3.25 Release date: 1/2/2009 1. RELMA now uses Microsoft's .NET technology. .NET is Microsoft's development platform of the future. Eventually, RELMA will be completely re-written in .NET. To make use of this technology, RELMA now requires that the Microsoft .NET framework be installed prior to installing or upgrading RELMA. This should be done automatically, if you run the Setup.exe program supplied with RELMA. NOTE -- the Install.msi package does NOT contain the .NET framework. If you are installing the program via the .msi package, please make sure that the framework is already installed on the system. 2. RELMA no longer uses InstallShield to handle the program installation and upgrades. With this release, RELMA now users the Microsoft Windows Installer. This switch is a major change, so it is strongly recommended that you backup any current RELMA installation prior to upgrading. 3. RELMA now supports the display of "context specific hierarchies." Users can now create their own hierarchies of LOINC codes and share them between users. See the RELMA User's Manual for further details. 4. RELMA now displays a "Long Common Name" for most LOINCs (RELMA.MDB field LOINC.LONG_COMMON_NAME). The "Long Common Name" is an easy-to-read version of the parts of the LOINC formal name. 5. RELMA now stores and displays the test and battery code systems when importing from delimited files. 6. RELMA now allows exporting to a delimited file of the LOINC database version and the battery and test code systems. 7. RELMA's LOINC Intelligent Mapper now lets you set a time limit for processing each local term. This time limit enables making a first pass over a local term file fairly quickly. Also, the default is to have the Intelligent Mapper process only the unmapped terms, although you can tell the Intelligent Mapper to process both mapped and unmapped terms if you wish. 8. "Configure Grid" is the enhanced version of the old mapping screen "Reset Grid" button, which now lets you change the order, column widths, and visibility of all of the flat (LOINC-only) search results, as well as letting you reset the column order, widths, and visibility to their default settings. 9. The mapping screen "Lookup Term by #" now lets you separate LOINCs and LOINC Parts by any combination of spaces and commas. 10. "Custom Export" now lets you select whether to include the header row. Version 3.24 Release date: 6/6/2008 1. You can now see which panels have any of or all of a group of LOINCs. When you look for panels with any of a group of LOINCs, the display is sorted first by the number of LOINCs found in that panel to aid in picking the most similar panel. The "any of" display includes the number of LOINCs found in that panel and their LOINC numbers. 2. LOINC Details now has a new display type, "Custom Display". This display lets you select which sections of the LOINC Details report that you want to see. 3. You can now pick which columns to send to the Clipboard, Excel, a CSV file, or your email program with the new Custom Export action. 4. When you Export Local Terms to a Delimited File, you can now include the LOINC Component, Property, Time, System, Scale, and Method of mapped terms. 5. Row numbers are now displayed on the restriction trees and the multi-axial tree search results. 6. When appropriate, grids now let you switch between word-wrapped and truncated cell contents. If a cell's contents are truncated, then an ellipsis (...) is displayed at the end of the first part of the data. 7. When appropriate, the context menu now has the "Propose a LOINC" action. 8. When you are adding or editing a local term, you can now use the context menu. 9. When displaying LOINC/Part Details, you can type a LOINC/Part number into the LOINC/Part number box, hit Enter, and RELMA will display that LOINC/Part. Then, that LOINC/Part is added to the end of the list of displayed LOINCs/Parts. 10. The Change Submission form now lists the name of the local term file, the number of local terms in the file, the number of mapped terms, the number of unmapped terms, and the percentage of mapped terms. 11. When you set RELMA to ask for a comment at each mapping, if no comment is supplied for a mapping, then that mapping is not performed. 12. Units from the original submission are now included as part of the example units on the LOINC Details. 13. On the LOINC Details display, externally defined answers are now explicitly shown as externally defined. 14. Importing HL7 now switches to the local term file of the HL7 import. 15. Switching the preferred language from the User Preferences form now immediately loads that language. 16. RELMA now supports searching the LOINC database multiple languages. 17. The HIPAA HL7 attachments displays have been modifed. These attachements are now displayed on the "Panels, Forms & Surveys" form. Version 3.23 Release date: 12/03/2007 1. Translation of parts and synonyms are now displayed in the detail screens. 2. Options available on the context menus (right click menus) of the grids are now consistent thought the application. 3. Users can now control which columns of data get saved when exporting data from the various grid controls. To use this feature, look for the "Columns to Export" button on the bottom of most grids. 4. The Common Tests restriction was restructured so you can only select a single common test restriction at a time. 5. The structured details display has been removed. All LOINC and part detail display now use the newer HTML display format. 6. From the Panels, Forms & Surveys screen, you can now enter a list of LOINC codes and RELMA will return a list of the panels or forms that contain those LOINC codes. 7. The LOINC detail displays now shows unit information that was submitted by various hospitals and organizations. 8. RELMA now contains links to reference information on the internet. To access this information from RELMA, you must have an open connection to the internet while you are using the program. 9. LOINC and Part reference information is now divided up into articles, citations, descriptions, original form links, package inserts, and technical briefs. 10. RELMA output file names now follow a more consistent naming convention, where all RELMA output filenames start with "RELMA_". RELMA now defaults to the "My Documents" directory for all Save File dialogs. 11. The main mapping screen can display search results in as either a flat list or in a tree structure. Unfortunately, the tree structure doesn't currently contain all of the available LOINC codes. This makes it possible to execute a search which returns LOINC codes that can be displayed in a list, but not available in the tree. If this situation occurs, a message will be displayed and the display will automatically revert to the flat list style of display. NOTE - There are plans to fully populate the tree structure in future releases of LOINC. 12. All Save to File actions now save in Comma-Separated-Value (CSV) format. 13. You do not necessarily need to enter KEYWORDS to do a RELMA search. Instead, you can select one or more nodes in the hierarchies (Trees) that are accessible via the "Hierarchy & Search Limits" button. Just "check" one or more of the check boxes and then click the SEARCH button. This method isn't as fast as a keyword search and it isn't recommended that you select large sets (e.g. doing this type of search with just Microbiology checked would be a bad idea) but it is a technique that is useful in many situations. Version 3.21 Release date: 06/15/2007 1. Corrected minor bug with the CTRL-ENTER search hot key. 2. Corrected a old bug in with the specimen restriction. Version 3.20 Release date: 06/01/2007 1. All the logos and icons used in the program have been replaced with the new and improved Regenstrief logos and icons. 2. Export to Excel It is now possible to export search results and hierarchies directly to a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet. To use this option, select one or more rows in the display then right click to bring up a context menu. Select the "Export to Excel" option from the menu. NOTE - this option isn't available on the search results "grid view" only the search results "Tree view". 3. Improved HTML displays We have substantially reformatted and improved the HTML LOINC detail display screens. 4. New Panels & Survey Instrument browser We have added a new screen for browsing and reviewing the LOINC panels and survey instruments. This new screen is available from the "Panels & Surveys" button on the main screen. It is also available from the File | View Panels and Survey Instruments menu option. 5. New search restriction on method In previous versions of RELMA users were able to limit their search results to terms that do not contain a method by applying the "Methodless Terms Only" search restriction. Suppose a group of LOINC terms with the same component, property, time, system and scale contains at least one term that does not contain a method. In this case the existing search restriction works great since at least one LOINC term from the group will pass the test and will be displayed in the search results. However, if all the LOINC terms in the group are method specific then all the LOINC terms in the group will fail the test and none of them will be displayed in the search results. We have addressed this problem in this version by adding a new search restriction called "If no methodless version exists, then return the method specific terms" which works in conjunction with the existing "Methodless Terms Only" search restriction. The new search restriction will work just like the existing search restriction in cases where a group of LOINC terms contains at least one term that does not contain a method. However, if all the LOINC terms in the group with the same component, property, time, system and scale are method specific then unlike the existing search restriction the new search restriction will allow all the terms in the group to be displayed in the search results. 6. New search restriction on common laboratory tests Regenstrief Institute analyzed data from the Indiana Network for Patient Care (INPC) and derived a list of LOINC codes that comprise 99.8% of the laboratory tests that were performed. On the search constraints screen there is a new search restriction called "Common tests 99.+ %tile". When this search restriction is enforced the search results will only contain LOINC codes that are members of this list. 7. Change translations on the fly In previous versions of RELMA, changing the linguistic variant displayed required a restart of the program. We have modified the program so that you can now change linguistic variants on the fly. To make this even more convenient, we have added a new menu option "File | Set Preferred Language." 8. Mapping History RELMA now tracks the mapping history of local terms. This is useful for backtracking and for analyzing local terms that were mapped to deprecated LOINCs. Version 3.19 Release date: 12/22/2006 1. The grouper function on the main search results screen has been replaced by a new "Tree View" search results screen. This is functionality is being released in a beta preview mode. Many enhancements and improvements will be made to this function in the coming months. We'd appreciate any comments or suggestions that you may have about this new display. Version 3.18 Release date: 12/01/2006 1. RELMA now displays most LOINC information in mixed case. This change reflects the conversion of the LOINC database to mixed case. As a result of this change, the short name column on the RELMA search results screen now looks a lot like the text displayed in the component column. As result it was decided to move the default location of this column. If you have an existing installation of RELMA, you will probably not notice this change. RELMA remembers the placement of the columns for each individual user and will not automatically rearrange the columns. If you would like to make use of this new arrangement, you can either move the column manually or click the "Reset Col Order" button. 2. New "Multi-Axial Hierarchy" tree There are now 5 hierarchical "trees" that can be used as search restrictions or for browsing. The new "multi-axial Hierarchy" is a hybrid tree in that organisation comes from multiple sources of the LOINC data base. 3. New Parts description display On the right hand side of the hierarchy displays is a new column labeled "Details." Clicking the hyper links displayed in this column will activate a window that shows detailed information about the PART or LOINC. All of the LOINC codes have "Details" link. For the PARTS, links are only displayed when we have a substantive descriptive information for the part. 4. Simplified the controls on the tree displays Additional buttons have been added to the hierarchical displays to simplify navigation of the trees. As always, the "Expand All"/"Collapse All" buttons expand or collapse the entire tree. The new "Expand This"/"Collapse This" buttons, expand or collapse the tree from the currently selected row all the way to the leaves of the tree. Use these buttons when you just want to expand or collapse a specific branch of the tree. The SHIFT+CLICK keystroke combination has been replaced the "Show LOINCs"/ "Hide LOINCs" button. When you click this button, all of the LOINC codes will be shown or hidden. Branches of the tree will no longer be opened or closed when LOINC codes are shown/hidden. 5. 3rd party copyright Some of the records in the LOINC database have 3rd party copyrights. When these records are displayed in the search results grid, they will be displayed in italics and with an alternate background color. There will also be a hyper link that you can click to display the full details on the record including the 3rd party copyright information. See the LOINC "Terms of Use" statement for more details on these records. Version 3.17 Release date: 06/12/2006 1. The Shift+Click option on the LOINC hierarchy structures has been enhanced. The new version displays all six parts of the LOINC name in separate columns. The LOINC data can be sorted in ascending or descending order by clicking on the column headers. The column widths can also be adjusted by clicking and dragging the right edge of the column header. 2. A "View Details" button has been added to the main search screen. This button complements that "View Details" menu option that was available on the search context menu in previous releases. 3. The LOINC Details form has been revised. When you use the view details option, the resulting display now defaults to a new HTML display. This display shows the entire LOINC on a single, scrollable, page. The old display is still available via the "Structured" radio button at the bottom of the form. A special mode called HTML w/details is included for the display of panels. In this mode, the additional details of each of the LOINC codes that make up the panel are included in the display. Using this option can result in some rather large displays. 4. The Mapping screen's size has been increased because of a need for more screen real estate. Users should run at a minimum resolution of 1024x768. Viewing at resolutions 800x600 and lower may be difficult and is not recommended. 5. The propose LOINC form now shows the OBX units of the local code that is being displayed when the propose loinc function is invoked.. 6. The review proposed LOINC's from now displays counts. 7. The import HL7 option has been enhanced. You can now specify additional information about the sample results that are stored along with the codes. For example, you tell RELMA to include the 5 highest and 5 lowest numeric results. See the RELMA users guide for additional details. Version 3.16 Release date: 12/05/2005 LOINC released in 3.16 RELMA is version 2.16 and contains 42,499 terms, an increase of 1,776. Approximately 1,000 terms have been edited. A grand total of 1,095 terms have been deprecated since beginning of LOINC. Version 3.16 of RELMA (and HL7 Lint) is now available and can be down loaded from the LOINC website (http://www.regenstrief.org/loinc/download/). It now includes terms of which — are lab terms. The program does not look much different but we have made changes in the database and structure that should simplify and speed the mapping of laboratory tests. (We will provide similar capabilities for clinical finding in the next release.) There should be a Regenstrief copyright notice-- on this just the (C) Regenstrief 2005. Some of this should probably be included in some version of the RELMA users guide too. We have done four things to make the mapping more specific and faster. 1. Removal (temporary) of the ACS synonyms to reduce the number of terms that comes up in a search. We removed the ACS synonyms from the LOINC term word index. The ACS synoyms are so rich and complete that they tend to include too many hits in the given query about a term. For example, when the ACS synonyms were including a brand of warfarin (or rat poison) that has the letter K as part of its name show up. When you type in K looking for potassium. The list of hits is now shorter and more reasonable. We are not removing the ACS synonyms entirely - for exotic names they can be useful. In a future release we will make the use of ACS synonyms available under user option. For now, however they are not part of the indexing at all. 2. Made units restrictions sticky If you have units in your mapping file, it makes no sense not to restrict the search to LOINC terms whose properties (e.g. mass concentration) are consistent with the units in your local lab. When you do a search for words in RELMA with units restrictions turned on, RELMA returns only the LOINC codes that are consistent with the units. So if your test is spot urine with units of mg/dl, the units restrictions screen out all of the 24 hour tests and all of the tests reported in molar concentrations, and in general the list of choices will be much smaller and more specific than if you turned off the units restrictions. We have made the units a "sticky" default. The computer starts out with units constraints turned on. The clear limits button now is labeled: "Clear most limits, because it does not clear the units restriction. You have to explicitly turn off the units restriction by either clicking on "units" at the bottom edge of the mapping form or going to the limits page and turning it off. When you log on again they will again be the default. RELMA takes the units from the local mapping file (LMOF) that you load in to start your mapping session. If you do not include units (a mistake) then this change will have no effect. If you include units that RELMA does not understand, the restriction on units has no effect. The units restrictions work the same on all measurements that have units -whether they be lab or clinical. The only down side of this new approach, is that if you are just exploring the content of RELMA, and want to just play around to see what is in RELMA - you will have to either clear the units field on the current screen or turn off the units restriction, because the default LMOF (the one that comes with the program) contains units. If you forget to turn off the units restriction and the computer finds no matches at all, it will remind you that you have units restrictions turned on. If you notice you are not finding common tests- when your are exploring, the first thing to do would be to null out the units field on ten mapping screen if it contains something. 3. Common Lab tests We have re-worked the list of common tests. Adding more laboratory tests based on a number of criteria- including some information about real use in our local RHIO. We have re-named the function to be Common Lab test and removed most non-lab measures. (In a future release we will provide specialized lists for a variety of clinical measurements). Finally, we have placed the button to restrict searches to common lab tests on the mapping page, where it is easy to trunk it on or off. Using the common test restriction removes much of the clutter associated with mapping the more common tests. For example, if you search for Hemoglobin BLD without using common tests 100's of tests come up, including many pathologic hemoglobins such as hemoglobin Seattle. If you do the same search with common tests and Units restrictions turned on-- you get two options in the list. At the start you should always be setting the Common lab tests button and leaving the units restrictions on. 4. Unknown words (Spelling errors) among your submitted terms. When you include a word in the search box that is not known to RELMA, the program now highlights it with the squiggly red lines that indicate a spelling error in WORD. Unknown words are ignored in the search. So if you don't realize that you have included words that are unknown (Think of them as mis-spelled) you search will not behave as expected. So look for those words with squiggly lines and edit -when possible. Even better be sure to run the find and correct unsown (mis-spelled) words as part of the LMOF loading process. 5. Intelligent Mapper We have improved- the function of intelligent mapper and cleaned up the screens to make them easier to work with. Try this function- It does a batch search for all of the terms in your local lab file and comes up with a list of 10 ranked "best" matches. It can use all of the same restrictions as the one by one search. It will often save you time. 6. Progress with CPT We have shown that for radiology tests, the inclusion of CPT codes in your local file can greatly improve the speed and accuracy of mapping (Vreeman DJ, McDonald CJ Automated Mapping of Local Radiology Terms to LOINC. American Medical Informatics Association 2005 Proceedings, 769-773.). However, we will have to include CPT codes within ten RELMA distribution and have not yet worked out the mechanisms for doing this with the AMA. 7. With this release, new installations of RELMA have the automatic sizing option on the search results screen set to off. To enable the automatic sizing of the search results grid users must explicitly enable this option on the user preferences screen. This provided users with a reasonable view of most LOINC terms with automatic columns sizing turned on. A very long component would generate very wide columns that disrupt viewing. The default columns size provides reasonable column sizes for most searches. You can still change the column size and positions and can return the program to automatic columns resizing with each search by setting the default. Version 3.15 Release date: 06/06/2005 ******************************************************************************* * NOTE: RELMA and LOINC are now being distributed with under a single license * * See the LOINC web site for full details. * ******************************************************************************* 1. XXX is no longer counted as a valid LOINC word in the scoring algorithm employed by the Intelligent Mapper. 2. Added a new search restriction in which the user may restrict search results based on laterality. Created for radiology terms, this restriction returns candidate LOINCs based on laterality information derived from the local code OBR and OBX descriptions. If the local term contains laterality keywords LEFT or RIGHT, then all candidate LOINCs will be returned, regardless of their laterality. If the local term does not contain any laterality keywords, then candidate LOINcs with laterality keywords in the system will be eliminated from the search. 3. Modified the HL7 import routine to store additional additonal information. Duplicate sample values are now counted and basic statistics are calculated for numeric values. 4. A new menu option under the tools menu. The HL7-Lint option will run the new HL7-Lint program. HL7-Lint is a separately available program that is included on the CD and must be installed separately. Version 3.14 Release date: 12/01/2004 ******************************************************************************* * NOTE: Due to the internationalization of LOINC and the support of foreign * * character sets like 'Simplified Chinese', the RELMA program can no longer * * be installed on the Windows 95/98/Me operating system family. RELMA works * * on the Windows 2000/XP family only. * ******************************************************************************* 1. Column headers for the attachments changed at the request of the HL7 Attachments committee. 2. Revised submission form so that navigation and action buttons (New, Save, Exit) are always visible as user navigates the form. 3. Added "Common Pharma Tests" search restriction. This restriction allows the user to search for common Pharma tests provided to Regenstrief by CDISC. 4. Added field to the submission form so that users may store an assigned LOINC number to a submitted term. Users can enter the assigned numbers on the submission form and view them on the review screen. 5. Added button to the Intelligent Mapper assignment form, the form users interact with after a local term file has been processed by the intelligent mapper. The button allows the user to view and edit the details of local terms. 6. Common 'typos' are now screened from word replacement suggestions offered on the Unknown Words and Units form. 7. A dialog box now appears when RELMA starts. The dialog allows the user to choose a preferred linguistic variant (i.e. German, French). Based on the user's preference, the 'Linguistic Variant' column in the search results grid will be populated with data from the LOINC database. If no preference is selected, this column of the grid remains empty. 8. Added a field to the LOINC details screen to indicate whether or not a term is considered a 'Common Pharma Test.' 9. RELMA now allows users to import local terms from HL7 messages. A new form was created that allows users to select a file which contains version 2.x HL7 messages. RELMA opens the selected file and attempts to pull local term data out of OBR and OBX segments. Version 3.13 Release date: 9/20/2004 1. Minor bug fixes. Version 3.12 Release date: 8/24/2004 **NOTE: Following the installation of the RELMA program, you will be asked to reboot your computer. This is necessary because InstallShield, a commercial installation software package, is used to install the RELMA program, and a bug in the InstallShield software requires a reboot so that all necessary files are installed properly. 1. Users can now create and customize color schemes to be applied when they run the RELMA program. Clicking the "Choose..." button on the User Preferences dialog box will open a custom color design box where the user can either choose one of the predefined color schemes distributed with the program or create their own color scheme. 2. Users can now import more information from their local term files into the RELMA program. Users can import things like related codes, a sort order, patient counts, observation counts, earliest and most recent observation timestamps, and min/max/average values. This data is displayed on the "Show All" screen and the local term details dialog box. For more information on the importing of these fields, please refer to the RELMA manual. 3. Users can now include deprecated LOINCs in their searches. Previously deprecated LOINCs were always excluded from search result sets. With the new option, users can allow deprecated LOINCs to be returned with active LOINCs when searches are preformed. The deprecated LOINCs are distinguished in the search result set by a strikethrough font and a red "do not" symbol. For more information, please refer to the RELMA manual. 4. The LOINC hierarchy structures (located on the Search Limits screen) now have a Shift+Click option that allows the user to see the specific LOINCs linked to the concepts in the tree. By holding the Shift button on the keyboard then clicking on an item in the tree, the user drop down or drop up a list of LOINCs linked to the concept (a.k.a. part) in the tree (e.g. Allergy Testing in the Class Tree). For more information, please refer to the RELMA manual. 5. The LOINC Details screen now features a "Panel" tab that displays panel information for those LOINCs classified as panels. This tab will be empty for all other LOINCs. The panel tab displays a panel's contents and structure. 6. The LOINC Details screen now features a "Parts\Synonyms" tab that displays LOINC-Part-Synonym information. Each LOINC is linked to several parts (e.g. Component, Property, etc.). Each part can have several synonyms (e.g. leukocytes = WBCs). This tab displays the individual parts and synonyms for a LOINC. This can be very helpful in determining why a result was returned for a search on specific keywords. 7. A new menu option labeled "View Local Term File Summary" now displays summary statistics about a local term file. The form shows the user items like the total number of terms in the file, the number of terms mapped to LOINC, the number of remaining unmapped terms and the number of terms in the file that have a value in the units field. This information can be printed. 8. Improvements have been made to the intelligent mapping process. The speed of the process was significantly improved and the process is more accurate (this is espcially true for clinical terms). The process screen was also redesigned and now features the same search restrictions available when performing an interactive search on the mapping screen. For more information, please refer to the RELMA manual. 9. For those users upgrading RELMA, the staff at the Regenstrief Institute recommends removing the word substitution “PANEL” from the LMOF3.MDB file. This word was previously included in the LMOF3.MDB file and set to “Ignore.” Several panel terms have been added to the LOINC database, and leaving this word substitution may prevent accurate mappings between the terms in the LMOF database and the LOINC database. For information on how to remove this word translation, please see the “Defining Word Substitutions for Local Term Vocabulary” section of the RELMA manual. 10. The Related Names field is no longer pre-populated on the "Propose a LOINC" screen with information from an existing LOINC. Users are encouraged to add their own related names. Version 3.11 Release date: 2/9/2004 1. Fixed bug where the user would map a local term to a LOINC but the mapping was not reflected in the list/tree of terms on the "Show All" screen. 2. Added a "View" menu to the mapping screen that allows the user to change the scale at which text in all grids is displayed as as percentage of the current font size. This allows the user to make the grid text bigger or smaller by either pre-defined amounts (e.g. 125%, 150%, 200%) or by a custom amount entered by the user. 3. Fixed bug where the user would sometimes receive the error message "Invalid property array index" when he or she moved from the current local term to another local term when the search results grid was in Grouping Mode. 4. When users are now navigating through their Local Term File on the mapping screen and their local terms have sample data associated, the first sample data record will be displayed on the screen instead of remaining hidden until the user chooses to drop down the sample data grid. 5. The messages displayed when the user's search returns zero (0) results have been enhanced to include more information about search parameters that contributed to the empty result set. 6. The ORDER_OBS field from LOINC is now displayed in the search results grid. This means it is both displayed with search results on the mapping screen and is printed with search results. 7. Fixed bug where not all columns in grid on "Review Proposed LOINCs" screen sorted correctly. 8. Added ability to limit results based on whether or not a term is part of the "Pharma MS*" set. These terms have properties that begin with the letters MS (e.g. MSCNC, MSCNT). You can choose to exclude these terms from your search (default), include them in your search or return only those terms that are part of the set. 9. RELMA now keeps track of the last column in the results grid that you sorted on and whether the sort was ascending or descending. This information is persisted throughout the session and saved to a file so the sort order will be used the next time you run the program. 10. RELMA now keeps track of the column widths in the results grid when you change them. The widths are not reset each time you search, but they are affected if you change the grid font size. The widths are also saved when you close RELMA so that they can be restored when you next open the program. 11. RELMA now keeps track of the order in which the columns are displayed in the results grid. As you change the order, the order is saved to a file so that the columns are not rearranged during the session or between sessions, so the program will restore the order next time you run RELMA. 12. Added a "Clear Inputs" button to the mapping screen. This button was accidentally omitted in version 3.10. The button allows the user to blank out the local term information and enter search text from scratch. 14. KNOWN ISSUE: When printing a LOINC hierarchy, local term file or field on the "Propose LOINC" form, if a single column in the tree display exceeds the width of a piece of paper then the output from the printer will not look right and/or your information will fail to print. This error is typically caused when the user maximizes the RELMA program on computers with high screen resolutions. To correct the problem, adjust the screen so that none of the columns exceed the width of the paper in the printer. Usually this involves "shrinking" the screen by clicking on the "Restore Down" button, the middle button between the Minimize and Close buttons on the right side of the application menu bar. 15. Fixed bug on export form that offset exported data by one field when the LOINC name or LOINC shortname fields were exported along with local term data. Verion 3.10 Release date: 1/8/2004 1. Added additional search option that allows users to filter search results by whether a test is an ORDER, OBSERVATION, BOTH or a SUBSET. This is controlled on the search options tab. 2. Added support to the Import wizard for header rows, typically the first row in a text file, which users desire not to load into RELMA but are output from local information systems. 3. Added support to the Import wizrd for sample data. This feature allows users to import not just local codes but sample values, normal ranges and abnormal flags for their local codes. 4. Fixed bug where wrong error message was displayed when user entered in too much information into the related names box on the submission term creation form. 5. Fixed bug where mixed case display string from the suffix hierarchy was automatically entered into the suffix part box on the submission term creation form (upper case string now entered instead). 6. Added check during program initial loading for the user to have pressed the escape (ESC) button. If the user did press the ESC button, then the user is asked whether or not he/she wishes to stop the loading and quit RELMA. If confirmed, the program stops loading and closes. 7. Fixed bug where submitter information was not properly saved to an output submission file if the user created and submitted terms in the first session after installation of RELMA v3.9. 8. Fixed but where submission term form displayed run-time error '381'. This was caused for similar LOINCs that contained divisor parts. 9. Fixed bug in proposed LOINC review form. In the orignal release, the "Select All" button caused all proposed LOINC records to be written to the output file regardless of its submission status. This has now been fixed. 10.Added a new search/mapping screen. The main feature of this new screen is combining of the local term descriptions with a direct entry keyword search. You no longer need to enter words into the individual keyword boxes when doing ad-hoc queries. The keywords boxes are still available as an option by clicking on the "show words" button. You can also browse through your local terms by clicking on the "show All" button descriptions are displayed Version 3.9 Release date: 10/6/2003 1. Fixed error when users had pipe '|' characters in local code descriptions. Users can now load both pipe '|' and pound '#' characters into the local code battery and test description fields and have them properly interpreted by RELMA as stated in the user's manual. Pipe characters are logical ORs and pound signs are logical NOTs. 2. In previous versions of RELMA, the LOINC Details screen displayed three star characters '***' in text boxes when the value for a particular field in LOINC was NULL (empty, blank). This was unnecessary and distracting for some users, so we have removed them and now empty values will appear as empty text boxes. 3. In version 3.7, RELMA contained a "Clear" button on the hierarchy trees. These buttons were accidentally left out of version 3.8. Version 3.9 restores these buttons and their functionality. 4. Fixed an error where the user searched for an item in a hierarchy and made one or more selections in the hierarchy before clicking the "Clear" button only to find the items from the heirarchy had not been cleared properly. 5. The top node from the hierarchies has been elminated. This information was redundant since the content of each hierarchy was implied by the name on the tab that contains the hierarchy. 6. Users can now access the LOINC website and send an email to LOINC through the About box. RELMA allows these functions by utilizing the default web browser and email program options through the Windows operating system. If users do not have default programs installed or available, the links in RELMA may not work properly. 7. Fixed an error where exported data from the search grid were not correctly saved to the file specified by the user. 8. Fixed an error when user clicked the "Clear All" button on the mapping screen while one of the LOINC hierarchies was displayed. 9. Fixed an error where user pressed a button on the keyboard before the first screen finished loading and the program fast forwarded user to the main menu screen only to bring up an error message when the first screen finished loading. 10. The Method hierarchy was added to the mapping screen as an additional criterion for searches. 11. Users can now use RELMA to create submission files. They can create proposed LOINCs using RELMA, store them locally and group them to submit for addition to the LOINC database. Please refer to the RELMA manual for more information. 12. The "Clear All" button on the mapping screen changed locations. It is now to the right of the "Search" button. 13. Users can now customize the RELMA program by choosing a color scheme. Each color scheme changes the text, button and background colors to a pre- defined scheme similar to the way users customize their version of Microsoft Windows. To change the color scheme, choose a new scheme from the dropdown box on the User Preferences screen. More information is available in the RELMA manual. Version 3.8 Release date: 5/28/2003 1. Fixed bug when using the "Auto Wildcard Keywords (*)" option on the search screen. Previously, ckecking this box would append a wildcard character to the end of any existing keyword as entered into the local term. This same behavior persists, but now when the user manually enters a keyword the wildcard character is also appended. 2. Fixed bug on "Revise Local Term Vocabulary to Fit LOINC Vocabulary" screen. The buttons on this screen are now disabled when there are no misspelled words so an error is not generated if a button is clicked. 3. Modified "Define Default Specimens for Local Lab Sections" to allow users to delete obsolete lab sections using a right mouse click. 4. Modified "Import Local Terms" to allow the user to associate an existing or new lab section with imported codes. The user can now use a drop-down box to select an existing lab section or type in a name for a new lab section. This value will be used for each term imported unless the user overwrites the default value with on from the imported file. 5. Modified "Report Local Terms" to allow a sort by import file order. This option allows the user to sort local terms in the same order they appeared at the time of import into the RELMA program. 6. Modified "Report Local Terms" to include the LOINC shortname, if available, in the list of fields it displays. 7. Modified the Main Menu screen to eliminate the confirmation message when the user clicks on "Exit". 8. Fixed bug while manually editing the current working set. Previously, the right mouse button did not bring up the edit dialogue box on the first row in the grid. 9. Modified RELMA to now allow users to enter comments for local terms for mapping purposes. Users can import comments with a new working set, add comments when mapping a term, edit comments while editing a local term and export comments along with the rest of the working set. These comments are displayed with the other local term fields on the report. 10. Fixed Save File bug on main mapping screen where user recieved error if he or she typed in a directory or file name that does not exist. 11. Added additional INI file setting to allow user customization of where RELMA should default when saving or opening files. 12. Fixed bug where a user's mapping was not correctly saved to a local term when two or more local terms had the same OBX (Test Code) value. 14. Added an option "Include deprecated LOINCs" to allow users to turn ON/OFF the display of deprecated LOINC terms on the mapping screen. This option controls whether deprecated LOINC terms will be returned in executed searches and displayed in the results grid. This value will be retained using the INI file so the user's preference will be maintained from session to session. 15. Users can now view local terms mapped to deprecated LOINCs on the "Report Local Terms" report. If a local term is mapped to a deprecated LOINC, the component column on the report will say "DEPRECATED" and the remaining LOINC fields will be blank. 16. Users now have a new menu item, Find Terms Mapped to Deprecated LOINCs, that allows them to scan their current working set for local code to deprecated LOINC term mappings. After deprecated mappings have been identified, users can use a form to assist them in re-mapping their local codes to different LOINC terms. 17. The main screen has be visually altered and is more graphical in nature. For more information about the main screen changes, please see the manual. 18. Menu options were added to allow users to connect to the LOINC website and send email to the LOINC team at the Regenstrief Institute. These menu options can be found on the Help dropdown menu. 19. A user's preference screen was added to aid users in altering persistent settings from a single location in RELMA. Previously, these settings were controlled on the mapping screen. The controls currently exist in both places, but in a future release they will only be available from the new screen. 20. The terminology in RELMA has changed. What was formerly referred to as a 'submission of local codes' is now referred to as a 'working set of local terms.' This subtle change occured to emphasis that a 'submission' is really a file that is sent to the Regenstrief Institute for inclusion in the LOINC database whereas a working set of local terms is a collection of local terms the user maps to LOINC codes. Version 3.7 Release date: 9/13/2002 1. Modified the HIPAA attachments code to speed the display of large attachments. 2. Fixed bug on the "Spell out unknown strings in local terms" screen. Version 3.6 Release date:8/19/2002 1. The results grid on the main input form now has additional functionality. The grid now allows users the option of viewing results using a standard grid (the flat, spreadsheet-like grid that has always existed in RELMA) or a new form of the grid that includes group-by functionality for the various parts of LOINC results. Users can switch between the two modes of the grid by using the right-click context menu. When the grid is in group-by mode, users may drag columns into the gray group area by holding the shift key or alt key before clicking. 2. The right-click context menu now allows users a 'Custom sort' option. Clicking on this option will bring up a customizable sort window that allows the user to select columns and sort orders for as many columns as the user desires. When the user clicks Ok, the result grid on the main input form will transform using the sort specified in the popup window. This option is only available with the Standard grid and not with the new Group-By grid. 3. The copyright screen and load sequence have changed. Before users were greeted with the copyright menu and chose a 'Continue' button to advance to the main menu screen. Now the copyright menu is displayed while the computer loads into memory. A progress bar at the bottom of the copyright screen informs users of the program's progress in the loading process. Because of this change, users will no longer need to wait for LOINC codes and KeyIndexes to load after they make a selection from the main menu. All of this loading is done now when the RELMA program first loads. 4. Users should notice two additional hierarchical structures on the main input form. Version 3.5 introduced the LOINC Class Tree structure. This version introduces the LOINC System Tree and the LOINC Component Tree structures. These new structures work the same as the class tree structure. 5. Users should also notice a 'Search' button on each of the hierarchical structure tabs. This button provides an easy way to make selections from the tree before executing a search. Pressing the button will close the tab and execute a search using the defined criteria. 6. A group of option buttons has been added to the 'Search Options' tab. These options allow the user to favor mass or substance tests during searches. Specifying 'Favor Mass' or 'Favor Substance' will allow results to be filtered based on their Property. These options were created to allow users to view results that matched types of tests they most frequently worked with. Since some tests, for instance, are reported in both substance concentrations (SCNC) and mass concentrations (MCNC), favoring mass will prevent the substance versions of tests from appearing in the results grid. If a test had no counterpart using the other property, the test, whether mass or substance, would always appear in the results grid. 7. A new checkbox appears now on the 'Search Options' tab. This checkbox allows users to limit results to a subset of tests called 'Common tests.' When this box is checked the search results will filtered to only show the commonly used terms. For example, if the box is checked and you search for the term SODIUM you will SODIUM SER/PLAS but not SODIUM CSF. 8. You can now view timing information about the search results. To enble this feature, click the "Display Post-Search Statistics" option on the "Search Options" tab. 9. The default name of the MSAccess database used by the RELMA program has been changed from LOINCACS.MDB to RELMA.MDB. If you install this version of RELMA over a previous implmentation, you may need to manually point the RELMA program to the new database. This may be necessary because the RELMA installation program is not able to modify an existing initialization file (RELMA.INI). This change may also cause, the now unused, LOINCACS.MDB to be orphan on the PC. You can safely delete this file after the installation has completed. Version 3.5 Release date: 1/1/2002 1. The DEFAULTS table from the LOINC database has been replaced by an INI file that is stored in the Relma installation directory. This INI file contains information on the path to and name of the LOINC database, the path to and name of the local master observation file database, delimiting characters and other user-specific information like name or initials of an individual or company. The program will create this file the first time it runs after installation. 2. The structure of the LOINC database has recently changed. In order to accommodate structural changes to the LOINC database, several changes have been made to the RELMA Program. Users must ensure that they are using the most up-to-date release of the LOINC database. A new warning screen has been added to the RELMA Program to alert users in the case of out-of-date LOINC databases. If you encounter this warning message, please go to the LOINC website at http://www.regenstrief.org/loinc and download the latest version. You may also elect to install the LOINC database that came on the CD-ROM with your version of the RELMA Program. 3. The classic mapping screen now allows users to right click on the display grid and choose an action from a popup (context) menu. Users may print the grid, display details of the LOINC term, copy highlighted rows in the grid to the Clipboard, save highlighted rows to a file or map the highlighted LOINC to the local code. The keyboard shortcuts keys that allowed these actions previously have been maintained in this release. 4. When you now click on the 'New' button located on the mapping screen, a dialog box now appears and prompts you for local code information. When you enter your information and click 'OK' on the dialog box, it is clear to see the changes you made reflected on the mapping screen. You may also now enter Battery Codes and Descriptions here; these additions were not allowed previously. 5. The Local Master Observation File edit screen (menu option ENTER) has been enhanced to allow individual edits on the same form described above. You can scroll through the list of local codes and now individually edit the information on the separate form. You can still directly edit the information on the display grid, but the extra form allows for greater flexibility. Users may also add new local codes from this grid display using the same form. 6. The About box has received a face lift and now displays the current RELMA version, LOINC version and contact information for the Relma program. Users should keep this information handy when calling the Institute with technical problems. The About box can be seen from the Copyright screen or by pressing F1 on the mapping screen. 7. The ABBREV.ABR file is no longer used and has been replaced with the Vocabulary Map table in the LMOF database. The RELMA program will read in the information from this text file and store it in the database before prompting the user to either delete the file from their hard drive or rename it for archival storage. The next time the user opens the program, the file will no longer be found and the table will become the primary source for word translations for searches. If the user chooses to archive the file, he or she will find a file named "abbreviations.bak" in the RELMA installation directory. NOTE: Users installing the RELMA Program for the first time need not worry about this. 8. The RELMA Program now allows for case sensitive imports of local tests. For more information about this change, please see the section on case sensitivity under the "Import A File Into RELMA" heading. 9. The Related Names and American Chemistry Society (ACS) fields from the LOINC database are no longer displayed in the results grid after a search. To view this information, you will need to view the LOINC Details of the results in question. 10. The Related Names textbox in the LOINC Details screen has changed. It now reports the values of the Related Names 2 field from the LOINC database. For more information about this change, please consult the LOINC 2.04 Manual. Version 3.4 Release date: September 28, 2001 1. The main search screen now displays the LOINC codes with all punctuation and special characters. In previous versions all special characters were replaced with spaces. 2. The main search algorithm has been modified to improve performance. Hopefully, you will be see a noticeable improvement in response time. Version 3.2 Release date: July 20, 2001 1. Modified the Intelligent Mapper report generator to support multiple sort fields. Users can now select up to 3 separate fields on which to sort the report. 2. Corrected a bug in some of the elapsed time calculations that would cause negative times to be reported if the time span crossed into the next day. This bug had no effect on any calculations, it just looked bad on the screen. 3. Implemented a new parsing and search algorithm in the intelligent mapper that is much more efficient. The speed improvement should be especially noticeable on terms that have multiple synonym translations. 4. Modified the "Pick LOINC code for local term from best matches (Interactive)" screen to allow the assignment of any LOINC code to a term. In the previous version you could only assign LOINC codes that were listed in the search results grid. 5. Modified the Attachments screen to display records that have an HL7Segement type of "OBR" with a light gray shading. 6. The main LOINC search screen now supports simple logical operators in searches. 7. Added status bar to the LOINC detail screen. 8. Corrected BUG on the "Assign LOINC to local code" screen. Clicking in the top bar of the grid sorts the grid by which ever column is clicked and double clicking on a row within the field of the grid assigns a LOINC code to the current term. This BUG would manifest itself when a user repeatedly sorts the grid at a high rate. If they kept clicking fast enough, they would eventually exceed the click rate that distinguishes a double click from a single click. The program would then, incorrectly, assign the LOINC code to the local term. Checks have been added to the double-click event handler to test the location of the mouse when a double click event occurs. If the mouse is on the header row of the grid when a double click occurs, the event is ignored. 9. Completely reworked the codes that loads the HIPAA attachments. In the previous version the LOINC information was loaded along with the attachment data even if the user had chosen to not display this information. Reading in this extra information increased the load times for the attachments. This was especially noticeable on the LAB and other large attachments. Now LOINC information is only loaded if one or more of the LOINC fields is selected for display. If an attachment is already loaded an the user decides to display LOINC information it is then read from disk. This can cause a significant delay if there are a large number of records displayed in the grid. 10. The HIPAA attachment screen has been modified. The drop down list box showing the available attachments has been removed. Attachments are now selected from the main grid area of the form. Just double click on the name of the attachment that you want to view. To return to the list of attachments when you are viewing an attachment, click the button labeled "Attachment Booklets" 11. The HIPAA print function has been modified. The attachment now prints in landscape mode. We have also added some header and footer information to the printout. 12. The auto sizing of the attachment grid has been reworked. 13. The attachment form is now modeless. That is, you can now minimize this screen while you are working on parts of the RELMA program. 14. The RELMA main menu screen can now be minimized. 15. On the main mapping screen, the "check units" check box is now set by default. 16. As the each local code is displayed, the program will now examine the value in the "Local Units" box. If the value is one that is unknown to LOINC (i.e. not in the propertiesandunits table) it will be displayed in red and a message will displayed. When this situation occurs RELMA will NOT restrict the search by units regardless of the state of the "Check Units" check box. 17. On the main mapping screen the ALT-N accelerator key was assigned to both the "Next" button and the "No Dups" button. This has been corrected. The ALT-N accelerator key combination remains assigned to the "Next" button. ALT-U has been assigned to the "No Dups" button. 18. Added a "Max comp. words" option to the main mapping screen. This control allows the user to limit the LOINC codes returned from a search my the number of words that are in the COMPONENT part of the LOINC name. For example if the control is set to a value of 1, then only LOINC codes with a single word in the LOINC COMPONENT will be returned. A value of 0 in the control will cause all LOINCs to be returned regardless of the number of words in the COMPONENT. 0 is the default value. A word is defined as any string of characters delimited by the " " character. 19. If a duplicate LOINC happened to fall on the last row of then main mapping screen the "REMOVE DUPLICATES" function would fail to remove the last occurrence of the term. This problem has been corrected. 20. Removed the "Intelligent mapper" menu options. Version 3.0 Release date: December 11, 2000 1. The global error handling routine has been modified to give the user the option of exiting the program when an unexpected error occurs. In previous versions, unexpected errors could result in the program entering an endless loop of error messages from which there was no way to proceed. Now the user can select YES to exit the program or NO to attempt to continue. 2. The automatic sizing option of the grid on the main mapping string has been changed from a button to a check box. In the last version, the user was required to manually click the resize button after every search. Now, this feature is controlled by a check box which can be set one time and will remain in effect until the user un-checks the box. 3. Corrected a bug that would cause garbage to be displayed in the units field of the mapping window. This problem would only occurred when the previous mapping session ended with a term that did not have a value for the units field of the LMOF. Under these circumstance the program would attempt to reload the value from the last session and improperly parsed the empty units field. 4. Corrected a bug in the keyword generation routines that improperly handled words with prefixes. This problem only occurred in certain rare circumstances. 5. You now use the Windows standard COPY and PASTE to copy LOINC information from all the grids. Select the rows you wish to copy using the arrow keys or the mouse and then use the CTL-C key combination to copy the data to the Windows clipboard. The data is stored in the clipboard with TAB delimited columns and CR-LF character line terminators. 6. You no longer have to highlight a row in the grid prior to displaying the LOINC detail screen. Simply right click with the mouse over any row containing data and the detail screen will be displayed. 7. The four LMOF reporting function have been combined into a single function. This new function allows to make your record selection and sorting preferences on a single screen. This function also provides print preview and zooming capabilities. 8. The basic structure of the Local Master Observation File (LMOF) has changed. To distinguish between the old and new files the LMOF.MDB has been renamed to LMOF3.MDB for this version of RELMA. RELMA has been enhanced to look for older LMOF files (LMOF.MDB) in the directory in which you install RELMA. If an old file is found RELMA will offer to convert it to the new file format. 9. Most reports can now be saved as either Adobe Acrobat (PDF) files or Rich Text Format (RTF) files. We recommend that you use the PDF format when possible. The RTF support is somewhat limited and the results are not a true to the printed report as we would like. This is especially noticeable with lines and graphic characters. 10. Some display screens now require a minimum screen resolution of 800x600. This is a change from the past where all screens were sized for 640x480. 11. The menu options on the main program menu have renamed. 12. The RE-IMPORT option is no longer supported and will not work. Version 2.1 Release date 06/13/2000 1. The LOINC detail screen is now sizable! Adjusting the size of the screen will cause the fields to adjust accordingly. The text of a field is now displayed as the tool tip for the field. 2. The program now checks to see if there is a previous instance already running. If one is found, it is brought to the foreground and the second instance is terminated. 3. Corrected a problem that caused duplicate entries in the KEYWORD table when a term had an ACS_synonym that was also a part of the LOINC name. 4. The grid has been modified so the users can now adjust both the column width and the row height. 5. The tab order of the fields on the MAP screen has been corrected to the more standard left-to-right top-to-bottom order. Version 2.0 Release date February 4, 2000 1. The program was ported from 16bit Visual Basic version 4 to 32 bit Visual basic 6.0. As a result RELMA will no longer install or run under Windows 3.1. 2. The underlying MS Access databases used by RELMA have been converted from MS Access 2.0 to MSAccess97. You can no longer use Access 2.0 to view or modify the RELMA databases. 3. The mapping screen is now scalable. 4. The "/" forward slash character is now treated a special delimiter and is replaced by a SPACE for indexing and keyword search operations. This corrects a problem in version 1.21 where the keyword SER would not return records with a system of SER/PLAS. 5. After clicking the Clear All button the cursor is now automatically placed in the 1st keyword text box. 6. The program has a new icon. 7. The setup program now uses the Microsoft CAB style setup files. Additionally, the LOINC database, LOINCACS.MDB is no longer stored as a separate ZIP file within the setup files. Instead, it is compressed as part of the CAB file. Therefore, the PKUNZIP utility is no longer supplied with the distribution. As part of the installation process one or more VB 6 specific Dynamic Link Libraries (DLL) may need to be installed on your machine. Installing these DLLs will require a reboot of the machine and should be considered a normal part of the installation process. 8. The access key for the "Clear All" button on the "LOINC Input Form" form has been changed from ALT+C to ALT+A to remove the conflict with the access key for the "Find Local Code" button. 9. Corrected a problem where certain combinations of CLASS and SUBCLASS restrictions erroneously returned "No Match" when there did exist records that met the search criteria. 10. Corrected a problem that caused error messages when printing under certain conditions.
